The sun has returned to Portland (for a day or two anyway) and our garden is coming to life.
At the moment, the blueberry blossoms are the stars of the garden.
What gorgeous color! I especially like them against the grey (pavement) and brown (leaf mulch) background.
The blossoms have a really beautiful shape, very round with frilly edges. They make me think of the poofy, Cinderella type dresses I used to dream of wearing when I was little.
The buds are lovely too, pointy little star shapes shaded in a white/pink/green ombre.
I think this cluster looks a bit like something from outer space, but perhaps that's because I watched the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers a couple nights ago, and those human replicating pods are pretty fresh in my mind (don't fall asleep next to the plants!). I'm pretty sure these blossoms are benevolent, and will produce nothing but lovely little berries to bake into pies.
