I see that it's been about a month since I posted. September was very busy, what with completing several freelance designs for a various publishers, working on new designs for my own line, and gearing up for the 11th Annual Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar.
I am the co-chair for the bazaar, and it keeps me pretty busy from September through the day of the event. It's totally worth it though; we bring in a lot of kibble money for the kitties!
We are still collecting donations for the bazaar (and will be right up to November 12th), so if you are crafty and would like to contribute, we'd love to hear from you! You can call House of Dreams at 503.262.0763, or email us at [email protected].
I have several designs in the works, all of which I hope to publish between mid- October and mid-November.
October (above) is a simple top-down raglan tee, and would make a great "first sweater" project for a beginning knitter. The version shown here is knit is Mochi Plus from Crystal Palace Yarns.
Elsa (below), which I have blogged about previously, is very close to publication. This is my favorite sweater to wear at the moment, and I am looking forward to getting the pattern out.
Also in the works: two designs based on the traditional Fana motifs from southern Norway.
One is an update of this hat, which I used to teach as a class about 10 years ago:
The photo is of the hat made 10 years ago for the class and was made from Dale of Norway's Tiur. Tiur has been discontinued, so I am making the new version out of Brown Sheep Company's Lanaloft Sport, and in a more traditional colorway.
The other Fana inspired design I am working on is a pullover, based on some illustrations of Fana's I've seen in the books of Annermor Sundbø.
I love Fana motifs, and will probably continue to return to them in the future. Look for a blog post about their history to coincide with the publication of the sweater.
Valdez (below) is finished, and ended up going to a publisher for an upcoming book. I'll post more when publication time draws near.
I am also working on a baby dress and some socks, both featuring Nordic colorwork and both of which should be out late in the year.
One last thing: I'll be teaching workshops in color theory and Nordic knitting at Blazing Needles in Salt Lake City the last weekend of October. There will also be a trunk show and reception on Friday October 28th. If you live in the area, come on by!
