I'm finishing up a very simple pattern for a scarf, worked up in one of my new favorite yarns.
The yarn is Twinkle Baby Chunky, from Classic Elite Yarns. It's a 100% wool bulky weight yarn with incredible loft and drape, and I am crazy for the colors. The scarf is worked in Fog, a soft, pale, sort of pewter-y grey.
I'm calling the pattern Lancaster, after the actress Elsa Lancaster.
She's probably most famous as the Bride of Frankenstein; however I named the scarf in honor of her performance as Miss Plimsoll in "Witness for the Prosecution". I began knitting the scarf while watching the movie--for the last 15 minutes I had to put my knitting down and just watch. Highly recommended if you like courtrooms dramas with snappy dialogue and sharp banter. No car chases, no fast edits, no bombastic score to tell us all how we should feel. Plus it has Ruta Lee. Loved it!
But back to the scarf...the main pattern is simple garter stitch variation, with a little edge treatment thrown in to make it more interesting. It's knit loosely, on large needles, and combination of yarn, stitch pattern, and big needles results in a fabric that is springy, soft, reversible, and has incredible drape. And I think it could be knit in a day should the need arise. As a friend of mine would say, this is a great "crisis knitting" project (as in, I need to knit my niece/friend/sister/co-worker/etc a present, and I need it done tomorrow!).
I honestly can't recall where the stitch pattern came from (the current version being a revision of a scarf I originally designed a few years back), but it's some kind of deviation on brioche knitting and fisherman rib. But it's much much easier!
Look for the pattern in my Ravelry store in the coming days.
